Thanksgiving Unplugged

Thanksgiving Unplugged

Thanksgiving, the most talked about meal of the year.  Whether we stay home or go out, everyone eats Thanksgiving dinner. One year, we ate at a buffet style restaurant and my son ate pizza but that was his problem, not mine.   If you are like me, you start planning for Thanksgiving at the beginning of November.  We do not have extended  family in the area so I cook the entire meal.  I buy my turkey and non-perishable items on the Friday or Saturday before Thanksgiving and make another trip to the grocery store to buy perishables. I come home from the grocery store and begin cooking, making pies, baking sweet potatoes for the sweet potato casserole and making cornbread for the stuffing.  On Thanksgiving,  I set out appetizers, begin cooking around 8:00 and we eat whenever I finish.

With that being said, I was so happy to hear about the web site Thanksgiving Unplugged.  The founders of the website are advocating that everyone turn off  technology during the meal.  One of my pet peeves is when I’m eating and someone is texting or worse yet when they are playing games on their phone.  So if you go to their website, you can sign a pledge and to abstain from using technology during mealtime. If you subscribe to their newsletter they will send you a table setting guide and  conversation starting ideas.  I love this and plan to get my family members on board.

Now if only I can get them to turn off football.  Oh well, maybe another year!

Disclaimer:  I do not know the founders of the web site nor am I getting paid to promote this.
