I wrote a blog post a few months back about how God can renew our minds but what about our bodies? I can remember being in my twenties and I did not understanding what “gravity setting in” meant. This was before I had children and breast fed and now I know. Oh, how I know! Now I have two children who I breastfed and have gained a few pounds (actually more than I care to admit but that is for another blog).
I also remember when I could stay up until 1:00 or maybe 2:00 and could teach the next day and would be fine. I also remember going out almost every night-not partying but going to meetings, attending classes, Bible studies, church activities and the like and loving it. I can’t do that anymore. Now I’m usually asleep by 10:30 if not sooner. I used to run a mile in 10 minutes now I don’t know if I could run to the next door neighbors house if my life depended on it.
What is that saying about me? Am I getting old? Yes I am and that’s ok! Aging is a normal process. Gravity will set in if you live long enough and to be honest with you, I don’t miss those busy days. It’s kind of nice staying home and relaxing. And concerning gravity, all I can say is thank God for spanx!
With the aging process we do things differently. We tend to slow down and that’s ok. However, we don’t have to live with a total lack of energy. The word states that in
Isaiah 40:31 “ But those who wait for the Lord [who expect, look for, and hope in Him] shall change and renew their strength and power; they shall lift their wings and mount up [close to God] as eagles [mount up to the sun]; they shall run and not be weary, they shall walk and not faint or become tired.” (Amplified)
That does not mean that we will never be tired because we will. However, it also does not mean we will be perpetually tired unless there is some sort of illness. Then if that is the case, we need to get that checked out by a physician.
2 Corinthians 4:16 “Therefore we do not become discouraged (utterly spiritless, exhausted, and wearied out through fear). Though our outer man is [progressively] decaying and wasting away, yet our inner self is being [progressively] renewed day after day.“
Praise God, my inner spirit is being renewed day after day, no matter what my body says, no matter how tired I am.
Psalm 92:12-15 The righteous will flourish like a palm tree, they will grow like a cedar of Lebanon planted in the house of the Lord, they will flourish in the courts of our God. They will still bear fruit in old age, they will stay fresh and green proclaiming “The Lord is upright. He is my rock, and there is no wickedness in him.
Psalm 103:2-5 Praise the Lord, Oh my soul and forget not all his benefits who forgives all your sins and heals all your diseases, who redeems your life from the pit and crowns you with love and compassion, who satisfies your desires with good things so that your YOUTH IS RENEWED LIKE THE EAGLES!!
DO YOU HEAR A HALLELUJAH COMING ON! YIPPY DANCE FROM PAT!!!! I am useful and God has great things planned for me, AND FOR YOU TOO!!!!!! We don’t have to give up or allow the younger generation to overtake us. We just need to do things a little differently.
What wonderful promises God has given us. Aging is a natural part of the life cycle, but we don’t have to surrender to the negative connotation that our society places on aging!
