It’s mid-January and your child is half way into the school year.  Maybe you’ve received a  report card from the school with not so stellar results.  Maybe you are homeschooling and it’s like pulling teeth to get your child to do his work.  Your child’s is more interested in video games or playing outside than anything to do with learning.

School work is intimidating to the child where book work is not his gifting.  Maybe your child has a learning disability.  Maybe he’s immature and is not ready for school.  Maybe there are physical or emotional issues that affect your child’s ability to learn.  Or maybe your child has a short attention span and can’t sit still for long periods of time.

None of us are created perfect.  Some excel in academics and others excel in athletics.  Some are musically gifted and others are mechanically gifted.  But Paul wrote in 2 Corinthians 3:5,

“Not that we are competent in ourselves to claim anything for ourselves, but our competence comes from God”.

We need to remember that our children are uniquely made and that if they are not proficient in an area, that through our prayers, God will help them.

Other scriptures we can pray over our children are:

• Proverbs 1:7  The fear of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge, but fools despise wisdom and instruction.  Pray that your children have a healthy fear of God; that they revere and honor him and pray that they will desire wisdom and understanding.
• Proverbs 23:12  Apply your heart to instruction and your ears to words of knowledge.  Insert your child’s name into this verse and pray it out loud. Ask God to apply your child’s heart to instruction and his ears to words of knowledge). Praying out loud increases your faith and pray this one until you believe it!
• Hosea 4:6  My people are destroyed from lack of knowledge.  This aspect of learning is essential to your child’s future.  Pray that the enemy of our souls will not destroy your child and that he will grow to be knowledgable in all areas of his life.

I have a cousin who had one class left in college to graduate.  It was a class that He had to re-take and he hated it.  My aunt, his mother,  asked everyone she knew to pray that he would pass.  All she wanted was for him to get a C.  Anyway, a different aunt began praying for him.  She prayed that he would have a desire to study.  She kept praying and praying. Anyway, my cousin passed the class and graduated and would wake up in the middle of the night with this desire to study and to read the textbook  for this class after the semester ended.  He found out my aunt was still praying for him and asked her to quit.

Anyway, prayer works!

“Hold on to instruction, do not let it go;  guard it well, for it is your life”.  Proverbs 4:13

Don’t let go and never give up.  Hold onto your desire for learning.  It is a life long endeavor.  Let your kids see you learn new things.  Learning is contagious.
