Senior Moments

October 23, 2013 by pcobb0 1 Comment

Yes, we have all had them, those dreaded senior moments.  You may forget the name of someone you’ve know for years or you can’t seem to find your car keys.  Or worse yet, you can’t find your phone and it’s in your hand.  I have done all of the above many times.  And it bothers me, oh how it bothers me.  You begin to wonder if you are losing your mind and are afraid you won’t be able to find it.  And then fear grips you, what if something really is wrong with me?  Am I getting old or could it be the dreaded “A word”?

I friend of mine used to say that when you hit 40 the first thing to go are the nouns.  You can’t seem to remember the name of anything.  Sometimes you stumble in the middle of a sentence and can’t seem to get it out correctly.  Yes, this may be true and it is a natural part of aging, but we don’t have to take it lying down!  We can do something about it.

The wisdom of the world tell us to do mind puzzles, read, learn another language, stay active, help others, hang out with young people; anything to keep the mind active.  Doctors tell us to take fish oil tablets and eat lots of Omega 3. I agree wholeheartedly with all of the above and believe we should do everything possible to keep our minds active,  but what does the word of God say?

Romans 12:2  “ Do not be conformed to this world (this age), [fashioned after and adapted to its external, superficial customs], but be transformed (changed) by the [entire] renewal of your mind [by its new ideals and its new attitude], so that you may prove [for yourselves] what is the good and acceptable and perfect will of God, even the thing which is good and acceptable and perfect [in His sight for you].” (Amplified)

Hallelujah, we don’t have to succumb to what the world says about aging.  God can renew our tired, weary minds!

Psalms 103:5 “ Who satisfies your mouth [your necessity and desire at your personal age and situation] with good so that your youth, renewed, is like the eagle’s [strong, overcoming, soaring]!” (Amplified)

The answer is God, He’s the one who satisfies so that our YOUTH RENEWED is like the eagle’s!  That makes me want to shout, my youth is renewed!

I am praying out these scriptures.  I am not old, tired, worn out, nor useless.  My memory is not leaving me.  I have a strong mind and my youth is renewed.

You don’t have to be forgetful and old and useless, no matter what society tells you.  With age we become seasoned, wise, graceful, and more at peace.
