New Years resolutions, we all make and break them. We think, I want to lose weight, get more organized, save more money, exercise more, eat healthy, and on and on it goes. I’ve made and broken too many resolutions to count.
During 2013 the common thread of the year was transition and boy did we transition. My daughter moved to Africa, I quit my job and started this blog. I’ve spent lots of time in prayer and still believe we are in transition but at the same time I feel a new season coming on. The word for this year is “vision”. And the scripture for the year is
Proverbs 29:18 Where there is no vision [no redemptive revelation of God], the people perish; but he who keeps the law [of God, which includes that of man]—blessed (happy, fortunate, and enviable) is he. (amplified)
Psalm 119:18 Open my eyes that I may behold wondrous things out of your law.
My primary focus this year is to seek out the redemptive revelation of God and to know Him in a totally new way. So to begin the year I am have joined the Awakening 21 Days of Prayer, Fasting, and Personal Devotion. Beginning today I am fasting TV, Pinterest, and sugar and am looking forward to the new “vision” I receive from God.
I’ve also decided to give up on resolutions because they do not work for me. This year I set the following goals to help me grow as a person:
Family:
1. Have one date night (or lunch) per month with my husband.
2. To send a weekly encouragement text or Facebook message to my husband and kids.
Financial
3. To be 100% debt free with the exception of our mortgage (complete by Dec. 31st)
4. To increase the savings allotment of our 401K by 1% (start now through automatic withdrawal)
5. To follow the 52 week money challenge saving $1378 Total I found on Pinterest.

Health
6. To decrease carbs in my diet with healthy substitutions.
7. To begin moving by walking more and eventually get to where I walk 10,000 steps. (Begin by using stairs as much as possible, parking in the back of the parking lot and looking for opportunities to walk) Begin walking around the block one time and increasing slowly as weather permits.
Home
9. To declutter all cabinets, closets and the garage and give away and sell what I don’t use. Take one room per week. Finish in 10 weeks.
Professional
10. To post to my blog 4-5 times per week including updates on how I’m doing with my goals and a reading corner.
11. To hire a virtual assistant and upgrade my blog. (Begin researching now and hire the assistant in March or April).
12. To write a book. (Research complete by June 30th and writing complete by Dec. 31st.
When I was teaching we were always required to include objectives in our lesson plans to insure that we had a purpose for each lesson we taught. When I was Director of the homeschool co-op, I always encouraged the moms to write goals for each of their children and making goals for our lives makes much more since than resolutions. I used the goal writing system Smart System found in Chapter 3, If You Aim at Nothing, You’ll Hit It Every Time of Say Goodbye to Survival Mode.

What are your goals for the upcoming year? Remember if we aim, we just might make it!

This is great! I have always struggled with making goals. I end up setting them too high, get totally distracted, or I fall short and feel despairing. However, I have lately felt at loose ends. Perhaps it is time to rethink goal making and work toward something attainable, yes? Thank you for the thought-provoking post here. Blessings!

I encourage you to set some goals for yourself and maybe for your homeschool. I plan to re-visit them once a month with this blog to see how I’m doing. If I’m running a little behind, it’s ok because I’ll simply get up and keep on moving and if I’m ahead then yeah!!!! I think the secret is coming up with a how and when and not leaving the goals empty ended. Good luck to you on your goals.
